Day 1 Peru, IL
Christmas is coming up very quickly and what better way to learn about the true meaning of Christmas than a trip to the Creation Museum and ARK Encounter. We'll also see the fascinating city of Louisville!
Day 2 Florence, KY
We drive to Kentucky, the blue grass state to Petersburg and visit the Creation Museum. Here, the pages of the bible dramatically come to life as you journey through biblical history. This time of year the museum holds their annual ChristmasTown. Once it gets dark, take in the dazzling garden of lights and reflect on the true meaning of the season at the live nativity. You'll receive a dinner voucher to eat here this evening. Afterwards, we’ll check-in to our hotel. (B, D)
Day 3 Louisville, KY
Our morning begins with a visit the Krohn Conservatory to see it's holiday showcase. Enjoy the train display that is miles long and winds throughout the gardens, evergreens with lights and hundreds of poinsettia! Botanical experts design an amazing mini version of historic Cincinnati buildings in the midst of all of the Krohn’s lush vegetation, each theme is to give a nod to Cincinnati’s rich German heritage. Lunch will be on your own at Findley Market before we depart for Williamstown, Kentucky to visit the Ark Encounter. The rest of the day will be spent here exploring the full-size Noah’s Ark, which was built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. Spanning 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 51 feet high, this modern engineering marvel will amaze us all! When the sun goes down, we’ll see the life-size ark and gardens illuminated in rainbow-colored lights, an animated show, Christmas Carols, Ice Skating and much more! Dinner is included while we are here. We’ll travel in to Louisville afterwards and check-in to our downtown hotel for the next two nights. (B, D)
Day 4 Louisville, KY
Louisville is the nicknamed “Derby City” so you can’t come to Louisville without visiting Churchill Downs and The Kentucky Derby Museum. Experience the thrill of the race known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports” and explore hands-on exhibits. Mount a horse, view the film “The Greatest Race,” and visit the museums thoroughbred, Deputy Joe. Lunch is included here. Our day isn’t over yet.....even though the sun hasn’t set, we’re still going to tour some Christmas lights at Lights Under Louisville. It’s truly a holiday wonderland here at the MEGA Cavern where we’ll experience the only underground holiday light show in the world while we drive our bus through 17 miles of underground passageways featuring over 850 lit characters. Next, we're off to the Frazier History Museum, to learn about Louisville's bourbon history and have a taste for ourselves. We return to our hotel to freshen up a bit before we attend a Christmas Show at the Derby Playhouse. A buffet dinner is included while here.
Day 5 Louisville, KY
We will start our day getting familiarized with Louisville on a City Tour with a local guide. A boxed lunch is provided today. Louisville is home to one of the oldest stoneware manufacturers in the United States, Stoneware & Co. We’ll tour the factory with a guide following the steps of more than 20 skilled artisans who take the clay from raw form to a completed piece and get the chance to touch the clay in its various states. You'll have the opportunity to paint your own piece of pottery after the tour. This afternoon we’ll visit Schimpff’s Confectionery for a tour. Complete with a 50’s soda fountain and original tin ceiling, the old-fashioned candy jars, cases, and turn-of-the century equipment will transport you back to the good old days of home-made candy and a real fountain drink. Schimpff’s is famous for its cinnamon Red Hots and we’ll get a candy-making demonstration to see them make the sweet little candies! Our tour also includes their Candy Museum which displays thousands of pieces of American candy memorabilia. Tonight, dinner is included at the Old Spaghetti Factory to end our busy day. (B)
Day 6 Rockford, IL
We’ll make our way back towards home traveling through Indianapolis and into Illinois to Rockford where we will overnight. Tonight dinner is included at the Machine Shed. (B, D)
Day 7 Home
We will arrive home today. Spend the last few hours reminiscing about our amazing tour these past few days. (B)
