Day 1 Escanaba, MI
This morning we begin our journey to the “all-natural” Mackinac Island. This is the only place in the United States where motorized transportation is not allowed. Visitors are free to tour the island by foot, bicycle, or horse and carriage. We will be there during their annual Lilac Festival. The island will be buzzing with fun! We will travel through Wisconsin and cross into Michigan to our overnight stay in Escanaba, MI. Tonight, we’ll have a pizza party at our hotel. (D)
Day 2 Mackinac Island, MI
We continue our journey as we cross the Upper Peninsula and drive across the “mighty” Mackinac Bridge into Mackinaw City and board Shepler’s Ferry for our ferry ride to the Island. This afternoon is the Lilac Festival Grand Parade, the only parade in North America that is totally horse drawn. Tonight, dinner is included at the Pink Pony. (B, D)
Day 3 Mackinac Island, MI
Our day begins with a narrated horse-drawn carriage tour of the Island making many stops throughout the Island’s interior and includes Surrey Hills, Arch Rock and Fort Mackinac. Then we’ll disembark our carriages at the Grand Hotel where we will enjoy bountiful feast featuring garden-fresh salads, savory cheeses, low-roasted meats, seafood and more than 20 varieties of fresh-baked pastries. Afterwards there will be some time to explore the hotel with the world's largest front porch. The rest of the day is on your own to explore downtown, do some shopping, maybe rent a bike to ride around the Island or even go horseback riding. The options are endless. (B)
Day 4 Ludington, MI
Today, we’ll board a ferry back to the mainland and travel south through the Upper Peninsula, making our way to Ludington, making a stop at the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum before checking into our hotel for the evening. (B)
Day 5 Home
This morning we’ll board the SS Badger to ferry to Manitowoc, WI across Lake Michigan. We travel back across Wisconsin and into Minnesota to our homes. (B)
