Day 1 Ashland, WI
We depart this morning on an exciting adventure to the upper peninsula of Michigan. We'll head north towards Duluth and visit Gooseberry Falls making a stop along the way for an included lunch. We'll then head to our first nights destination in Ashland, WI. Our hotel is located right on Lake Superior and we will have lakeview rooms tonight. Dinner is included this evening. (L, D)
Day 2 Sault Ste Marie, ON
We head into Michigan today and travel across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Enjoy a boxed lunch. We'll board a boat for a Cruise along the most visually stunning 40 miles of shoreline on the Great Lake, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore! We'll continue into Ontario Canada for our two night stay in Sault Ste Marie. (B, L)
Day 3 Sault Ste Marie, ON
This morning we will board the Algoma Central Railroad for a tour to Agawa Canyon. Enjoy an included lunch onboard as we travel 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie to the canyon. On this spectacular train excursion, we will travel over towering trestles, alongside the northern lakes and rivers, through the awesome granite rock formations and mixed forests of the Canadian Shield. We will descend 500 feet down to the floor of the Agawa Canyon and spend two hours experiencing the beauty. You can enjoy a hike to the waterfalls, feed the trout or shop in the Souvenir Car. Park rangers will be available to point out the wildlife. (B, L)
Day 4 Mackinac Island, MI
Our morning begins with the Soo Locks Boat Tour, the largest waterway traffic system on earth. We will ride the boat as it raises 21 feet straight up to the level of Lake Superior and learn about the operation of the locks, it’s history and everything we see along the way. From there we will head to Mackinac Island, which sits in Lake Huron. This is the only place in the United States where motorized transportation is not allowed with the exception of a fire truck. You’ll have some free time to explore and shop before our included dinner at the Pink Pony. (B, D)
Day 5 Escanaba, MI
Our day begins with a narrated horse-drawn carriage tour of the Island making many stops throughout the Island’s interior and includes Surrey Hills, Arch Rock and Fort Mackinac. Then we’ll disembark our carriages at the Grand Hotel where we will enjoy bountiful feast featuring garden-fresh salads, savory cheeses, low-roasted meats, seafood and more than 20 varieties of fresh-baked pastries. Afterwards there will be some time to explore the hotel with the world’s largest front porch. Afterwards, we’ll board Shepler’s Ferry again and return to St. Ignace where our bus will be waiting our arrival. We’ll make a picture stop of the“Mighty Mac” bridge and begin our trek towards home. We’ll go as far as Escanaba, MI. Tonight, we’ll have a pizza party at our hotel to spend our last evening as a group! (B, D)
Day 6 Home
We travel back across Wisconsin and into Minnesota to our homes. (B)
