Trip Itinerary
Day 1 Kearney, NE
We board our coach to begin our adventure to Colorado in the fall. We will spend the day getting acquainted with our fellow passengers as we make our usual stops along the way to our overnight destination of Kearney, NE.
Day 2 Colorado Springs, CO
Our travels continue today as we drive into Colorado making our way through Denver to Colorado Springs for a two night stay. (B)
Day 3 Colorado Springs
This morning we visit the U.S. Air Force Academy, to learn about cadet life here. Then we head to Garden of the Gods where a guide will board our bus and take us through the park. View 300’ towering sandstone rock formations against the snow-capped Pikes Peak and brilliant blue skies. Lunch is included today. Our afternoon will be spent aboard the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Sit back, relax and check out the amazing views of Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs while ascending Pikes Peak via the cog train! With an average grade of 12%, the railway climbs the 14,115 feet to the top of Pikes Peak Mountain on a special track, sometimes hitting a grade of 24%! It’s an incredible ride! Afterwards, we return to our hotel in Colorado Springs for the evening. (B, L)
Day 4 Alamosa, CO
Our first train ride awaits! We make our north to the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. This train takes us along the tumbling waters of the legendary Arkansas River deep within the granite cliffs of the Royal Gorge. We’ll see some of the most spectacular scenery and hopefully some wildlife. Afterwards, visit the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park and all of its attractions. Marvel at awe-inspiring panoramic views from one of the world’s highest suspension bridges, hanging 956 feet above the Arkansas River we just traveled beneath! While here walk on the bridge, check out the visitor center, ride the world’s longest single-span aerial gondola or just enjoy the view. We’ll make our way to Alamosa, CO. Tonight we’ll have an included Pizza Party at our hotel. (B, D)
Day 5 Farmington, NM
Hidden away in a little-known corner of the southern Rocky Mountains is a precious historic artifact of the American West known as the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. We ride this train from Chama to Antonito one-way with an included lunch in Osier en-route. Upon our arrival to Antonito, we will board our coach to travel to our overnight destination in Farmington, NM. (B, L)
Day 6 Durango, CO
Today we make a stop at the Four Corners Monument, the only place in the United States where four states (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado) come together at one place. Here you can stand in four states at the same time. Then we continue to the Anasazi Heritage Center to learn about the Ancestral Puebloan Culture and other Native cultures in the Four Corners region. We’ll stop for lunch on your own on the way to Mesa Verde National Park where we’ll stop to see the visitor and research center before traveling into the park to drive the scenic Mesa loop road. Our drive will reveal the full range of architecture from earliest pit houses to the cliff dwellings. Highlights include views of Square Tower House and Cliff Palace. Later, we’ll continue to our overnight in Durango, Colorado where we’ll enjoy an included dinner and show at the Bar D Chuckwagon. (B, D)
Day 7 Montrose, CO
Another train today! Board the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for an unforgettable experience as we travel 45 miles along the Anamas River to Silverton. After lunch and free time in Silverton, we travel along the winding Million Dollar Highway, one of the most scenic drives in the USA. From there we visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park where you will be exposed to some of the steepest cliffs and oldest rocks in North America. We arrive in Montrose, Colorado for our evening stay. Dinner is included this evening. (B, D)
Day 8 Denver, CO
This morning we board the Amtrak. Our trip brings us through the breathtaking Colorado Rockies from Grand Junction to Denver. (B)
Day 9 York, NE
We make our way east into Nebraska to the city of Kearney to visit the Great Platte River Road Archway, an interactive adventure that pays tribute to the pioneers who passed through Nebraska on their way West. (B)
