Trip Itinerary


Day 1 Escanaba, MI

This morning we begin our journey to the “all-natural” Mackinac Island. This is the only place in the United States where motorized transportation is not allowed. Visitors are free to tour the island by foot, bicycle, or horse and carriage. We will travel through Wisconsin and cross into Michigan to our overnight stay in Escanaba, MI. Tonight, we’ll have a pizza party at our hotel. (D)

Day 2 Mackinac Island, MI

Enjoy an included breakfast at our hotel before we depart.  Next, we will head to Mackinac City, but first we will have to cross over the “Mighty Mac” bridge. The bridge connects upper Michigan with lower Michigan and is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Once in Mackinac City, we will give you some free time to explore and do some shopping at Mackinaw Crossings. Have lunch on your own while here.  This afternoon, we will board Shepler’s Ferry to Mackinac Island, which sits in Lake Huron. This is the only place in the United States where motorized transportation is not allowed with the exception of a fire truck. We’ll check into the fabulous Grand Hotel. The rest of the day will be on your own before we attend dinner this evening in the Grand Hotel Dining Room featuring a new menu each evening. (B, D)

Day 3 Mackinac Island, MI

Breakfast at our hotel is ordered straight off the menu in the dining room and there is plenty to pick from!  We will take in a narrated horse-drawn carriage tour of the Island making many stops throughout the Island’s interior and includes Surrey Hills and Arch Rock. Lunch is included today at the Grand Hotel’s famous lunch buffet. Enjoy a bountiful feast featuring garden-fresh salads, savory cheese, low-roasted meats, seafood and more than 20 varieties of fresh-baked pastries. This afternoon is free to sit it out on the famous porch and take in a view of Lake Huron, shop Main Street, rent a bike to ride around the island.  This evening, dinner is included again at our hotel in the main dining room. Day 4 Ludington, MI

We will board a ferry back to the mainland and travel to Castle Farms in Charlevoix. We’ll begin with an included lunch. Then we’ll tour the historic Castle and it’s gardens while learning of it’s 100+ years of history. We end our experience here with a private wine tasting from their very own 1918 Cellars. Our drive continues to Ludington where we will check-in to our accommodations. (B)

Day 5 Home

This morning we’ll board the SS Badger to ferry to Manitowoc, WI across Lake Michigan. We travel back across Wisconsin and into Minnesota to our homes. (B)

**Please note, Grand Hotel has a strict dress code. During the day, casual resort clothing is appropriate. In the evenings, dress clothing is required for ladies, gentlemen are required to wear a suit coat, necktie and dress pants.
